Supporting context

This section explains the evidence and judgment used to support the recommendation and the legal, brand and financial assumptions used in the valuation.

Reference case

Equinor

Prepared reference case

Indicative value of the Equinor corporate name across upstream, marketing, power and renewables. Licences, reserves, production assets, trading positions, technology and enterprise value are excluded.

The group revenue base includes SDFI and third-party volumes marketed by Equinor and Danske Commodities, which trades under its own name, so it is an upper bound. Upstream profit is taxed at a 78% marginal rate; the notional licensor is taxed at the 22% corporate rate. The Statoil name was retired in 2018. The 0.25% name-only ceiling and 0.175% selected royalty are analyst assumptions, not an observed licence. Opening hypothetical rent of USD 186.3m is about 0.7% of USD 27.591bn FY2025 group adjusted EBIT. Legal and behavioural inputs are outside-in estimates, not a trademark opinion or customer survey.
Informed by numerous sources including company reporting, investor materials, analyst research, market data and selected benchmark references where relevant.
